Clerk to the Governing Body

We are looking to appoint an organised, flexible and reliable Clerk to the Governing Body to provide high quality clerical and administration support.  The Clerk’s role is to ensure that the business of each Governing Body meeting is conducted smoothly and efficiently, operates within its powers and follows agreed and proper procedures. The successful candidate will be required to attend 6 FGB meetings and 10 Committee meetings per year. Meetings are held early evening, FGB meetings usually last about 2 hours, and committee meetings ½- 1 Hour.

  • Contract/Hours:Permanent, Part-time
  • Salary Type:EHCC / Support Staff
  • Salary Details:Scale D (£10.83 ph.)plus pro rata holiday pay
  • Hours of Work:: 104 hours per year 
  • Working from home allowance: pro rata equivalent to £700 per annum

Specific duties include:

  • Providing advice to the Governing Body on governance, constitutional, legal and procedural matters
  • Providing effective administrative support to the Governing Body
  • Ensuring the Governing Body is properly constituted
  • Managing information effectively in accordance with legal requirements
  • Maintain and store policies and Governing Body records
  • Agenda setting in liaison with the Chair of Governors and Head teacher
  • Minute taking for Full Governing Body and Committee Meetings
  • Co-ordinating meetings
  • Producing policy documents and minutes
  • Dealing with Governors’ correspondence and enquiries


The successful candidate will:

  • Be able to understand and follow policies and procedures
  • Have excellent IT skills
  • Have a background in a clerical or administrative post
  • Be able to demonstrate a high standard of efficient, accurate and confidential record keeping
  • Keep up to date with current legislation
  • Be confident in communicating well
  • Be able to demonstrate an ability to work under own initiative


Previous experience is desirable but not essential as full training will be provided.
